Program in Clinical Science and Translation at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York

Summer Arch Semester Away Opportunity!

This program, developed in collaboration between Rensselaer and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), aims to provide a semester long immersive experience to develop an understanding of clinical science and its translation to improve healthcare and/or its delivery.  Students will learn to identify clinical problems in need of a solution and conduct customer interviews with clinicians, biomedical scientists, engineers, medical device companies and medical students.  Results will be used for development of a porotype/concept at the Rapid Prototyping Center (RPC) at ISMMS working alongside clinicians, computer scientists and engineers.  The program will involve regular presentations, select clinical rotation and opportunity to attend short professional courses/lectures at ISMMS and opportunities to conduct biomedical research.

To apply for the program, interested students should send their current CV and a one page description of any previous experiences in conducting undergraduate research/design/programming to Brtinee Eskew at

Advance inquiries and questions regarding the program should be sent to Professor Deepak Vashishth, Director, Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) at
