Extreme Heat, Conserve Energy

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION DIVISION -FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

Due to the extreme summer heat, Physical Plant is asking the campus community to help reduce cooling and electrical demand from June 18 through June 21.

We request faculty and staff take these additional measures to conserve energy:

        •       Allow temperatures to rise in unoccupied rooms to help meet campus cooling demands.

        •       Close window drapes, curtains, or blinds, especially when windows are in direct sunlight. Keep windows closed and locked.

        •       Turn off or dim electric lights as much as possible, and ensure all lights are off when leaving a room or office. Close window shades and use electric lights when windows are in direct sunlight. When they are not, open the drapes slightly and turn off electric lights.

        •       Turn off computer monitors, projectors, and computers whenever possible.

        •       Minimize unnecessary ventilation by closing fume hood sashes and turning off any unneeded exhaust fans.

        •       Keep outdoor air from entering buildings by closing doors, including vestibules, and keeping all windows closed.
