Established by Congress in 1986 to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation runs an educational scholarship program designed to provide opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students with strong academic records and outstanding research potential. Goldwater Scholarships support study in the fields of mathematics, engineering and the natural sciences as preparation for research careers in these areas.

Full-time matriculated sophomores and juniors who meet the above academic criteria and intend to pursue a research career in a natural science, mathematics or engineering are eligible to apply.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  Interested and eligible students must be nominated by Rensselaer and must complete a pre-application in order to be considered for a nomination.  The pre-application deadline is Monday, November 29, and the final application deadline for nominated students is Thursday, January 20, 2022.
