Rensselaer has a diverse and growing portfolio funded by numerous sponsors, including federal agencies. Rensselaer is committed to be a good steward of support for such projects, and as a part of doing so has a robust export control program. However, recent regulatory focus related to research security and foreign influence has heightened the importance of compliance in these areas; see, for example, National Security Presidential Memorandum 33, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Academic Outreach Initiative, and Department of Justice and BIS Disruptive Technology Strike Force.
In proactive response to updated federal requirements and guidance, Rensselaer is updating its relevant export control processes and expanding them to include a global research security program responsive to pending federal requirements. Doing so will allow Rensselaer to continue to build its research program and remain in compliance with federal regulations. [Please see the full program update and reminder for complete information.]
