Energy Conservation during the Institute State of Emergency

The institute is implementing an energy reduction plan that focuses on saving resources and reducing operating costs.  The initial phase of the plan is focused on three basic actions;  reducing building temperatures in unoccupied buildings and spaces, reducing laboratory exhaust where safe, and turning off unnecessary lighting.  The goal at this time during the remaining of the heating season is to reduce unoccupied space temperatures to 55 degrees, disable automatic lighting control systems and minimize the amount of fresh air changes in laboratories.  Unoccupied space temperature settings have been reduced and laboratory exhaust systems will be adjusted in coordination with a safety audit of the labs with EHS.  Please reduce lighting costs by turning off lighting in unoccupied spaces.  Additional energy conservation actions will be taken as Phys Plant does a building by building energy assessment.  Occupied residential halls are not affected.

We welcome any energy saving recommendations from the Rensselaer community.

Updates will be provided in the future as energy saving opportunities mature.
