The 2022 campus wide steam and electrical distribution systems outages for essential assessment and repair is done on the main Rensselaer campus annually in order to perform critical infrastructure preventative maintenance. 

Our steam and electric outages will continue on the following dates:

• Steam outages are scheduled for Quad, Sage Dining Hall, Commons Dining Hall, Rensselaer Union, and Freshman Hill Dorms are scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 5th and continue through Friday, July 8th.   This outage will affect steam and hot water in these areas.
• Electrical outages are scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 5th and continue through Saturday, July 9th.

By communicating the outage schedules we strive to minimize the impact to all at RPI. 

The electrical outages are necessary to exercise electrical system distribution feeders and test automatic transfer switches for emergency power generators.   These are “short term outages” lasting between 5 and 120 minutes.  Additional electrical systems preventative maintenance may be done subject to funding availability.  If approved, this work will cause outages in addition to the distribution feeder switching listed in the attached spreadsheets.    The work is traditionally scheduled at a later date on a case by case basis.
