Rensselaer's Physical Plant wishes to advise the campus community of the high-humidity conditions that are currently taking place in Cogswell Laboratory. Due to a failure of the existing steam reheat coil, the supply air temperature has been circulating cooler and higher relative humidity air throughout the building. Replacement of the steam reheat coil has been planned, but unfortunately there is a four- to six-week lead time for materials to arrive.
In the interim, Physical Plant's HVAC technicians have made minor repairs to the failed steam reheat coil to help mitigate the humidity until the new unit is received. In addition, Physical Plant will also look at raising the temperature in the discharge air to lessen the condensation while trying to maintain comfortable building conditions.
The Physical Plant staff apologizes for any inconvenience while they work towards a long-term solution for this issue, asks the campus community to please watch for updates, and thanks everyone for their patience!
