Parking Permits

A Rensselaer Parking Permit includes a hang tag (or decal) and, possibly, a transponder that allows access to specific parking lots and campus gates. Vehicles are restricted by permit to specific, assigned parking lots and all vehicles must display their hang tag at all times. Additional or replacement transponders are available at a cost of $15. A replacement fee of $6 will be charged for lost or stolen hang tags.

A “D” permit or a meter permit are the only valid permits allowed in metered spaces in any RPI lot.

Student Parking

Student permits are valid when issued and expire on June 30th of each year. Students may not apply for academic year permits before June 15th. 

Parking permits are not available to first-year students.

    Purchase a Permit
    1. Determine permit based on assigned Residence Hall or availability of Student Parking Lots (see below).
    2. Login to the Campus Parking Information System (using your RIN number & password) and click on Purchase a Parking Permit
    3. Select a permit from the dropdown menu and continue through checkout.
    4. Your permit will be ready to be picked up in 5 business days. Hang tag permits must be obtained by you in person (or by a designee) from the campus Parking Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    Summer Permits For Arch and Non Arch Students

    Summer Parking for Arch Students:

    Arch students who currently have a permit for the spring semester will have to obtain a summer permit before May 28th. The fee for July and August is $11.25/month.

    Arch students who currently do not have a permit will have to obtain a summer permit before May 28th. The fee for May through August is $11.25/month.

    Summer permits are valid for any student housing ungated parking areas. Students living in E-Complex, Quad and Blitman will receive a transponder to park in North Lot.

    All students will need to purchase a permit for the academic year in August. Arch students would be prorated to pay ($11.25/month) for only the months needed.

    Summer Parking for Non Arch Students:

    Non Arch students staying for the summer only will need to obtain a summer permit for $55, valid starting May 20th to August 28th.

    Faculty and Staff Parking

    With the exception of the Parking Garage and current West Lot permit holders, faculty and staff are assigned parking lots based on proximity to their work place location.

    The following fees include the New York State sales tax of 8%:

    To Purchase a Permit:

    1. Locate parking lots close to your assigned building, using the Parking Lot Map.
    2. Login to the Campus Parking Information System (using your RIN number & password) and click on Purchase a Parking Permit
    3. Select a permit from the dropdown menu (based on proximity and availability) and continue through checkout.

    Payment

    Rensselaer Parking and Transportation will deduct parking fees from employees’ bi weekly, semi-monthly or monthly paychecks, based on parking lot permit. Parking permits are optional and only necessary when you choose on campus parking. Deductions for permits will continue automatically until the permit (and transponder, if applicable) is returned to the Parking & Transportation Office. For those ineligible for payroll deduction, cash or check will be accepted.

    All fees are pre-tax and pro-rated.

    Multiple Vehicles

    Any number of vehicles may be registered under one permit. However, only one registered vehicle is allowed on campus at any one time.  Only one (1), transferable hang tag (or decal, in the case of motorcycles) and transponder will be issued with each permit.  If a second vehicle is required to be on campus, a second permit must be purchased at the full permit price.
