Parking Permits

PARKING PERMITS – 2023-2024

All currently registered, active Parking permits will be automatically rolled over for the 2024 fiscal year as they have in the prior years.

There is no need for you to re-register for parking if you have a payroll deduction as method of payment.  If you purchase your parking permit out of pocket (Visa or MasterCard only), you will need to go to rpi.aimsparking.com and purchase your new permit.  All permits need to be purchased and applied for before Monday, July 17th to avoid any parking enforcement penalties.

Please access your account at rpi.aimsparking.com and review your permit and vehicle information to make sure it is correct and to make any necessary changes if needed.  If you have a Departmental (D) or Service Internal (SI) permit, please contact your department coordinator about the renewal process.  For any other permit or vehicle questions, please contact the parking office at parking@rpi.edu or 276-6616.

A reminder that all permits are now virtual.  Any old hang tags will no longer be valid after June 30, 2023.  As of July 1, 2023, there is no need to display a hang tag in your vehicle and any hang tags in your possession may be discarded.   Please return any unused transponder wands to the Parking Office via  Inter-Office mail or in person at 2144 Burdett Avenue between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday.

All Rensselaer parking lots and vehicles parked on campus require a valid virtual parking permit.  All vehicles with a valid virtual parking permit must park in the designated lot associated with your permit to avoid potential parking fines.

For questions regarding parking at Rensselaer, please contact John Zerebynsky, Operations Manager for Parking and Transportation at zerebm@rpi.edu or 276-8528.

Parking at Rensselaer ---

A Rensselaer parking permit is required for anyone parking on campus.  A new parking system is in place and can be accessed at: https://rpi.aimsparking.com

Your ability to register for specific parking lots is limited by your campus status.  Residential students will have access to lots unavailable to non-residential students.  Faculty and staff will be given options limited by the building in which they work.  Any options unavailable mean that the number of spaces available in that parking lot have sold out.

Steps to the registration process:

If your vehicle appears but the information is incorrect…

Select “Modify Account Vehicles” on the lower portion of the viewer screen.  In the change type, select either permanent change or temporary change.  Permanent change is to update your vehicle information permanently.  Temporary change would be for a situation where you have a rental or loaner vehicle for a specified amount of time.

If your permit is incorrect….

Under the “permits” option on the left hand side of the viewer screen select “view” on your permit and then “Change Permit Type” from the permit information screen.  You will only have the ability to change to another lot available to you.  You will not have access to change to any lot.  Lots are assigned by the system according to status (student vs. faculty/staff) and location (building, residential student, off-campus student, etc.)

If there is no vehicle or permit listed for you…..

You should select a permit and add vehicle then checkout.  Faculty/staff – if you already have a permit through payroll deduction, you should select that.  You will not be double charged.  Otherwise, you will need to use the credit card feature for purchase.  Students – you have the options of billing to your student account or using a credit card.

If your vehicle is listed with a Service Internal (SI) or a Department (D) permit….

You will not be able to change your vehicle details.   With the new system, SI and D permits are only available through your department representative and purchased with an inter-department FTR.  If you are a department representative and do not have an account and password, please email auxiliaryservices@rpi.edu with your department information and representative’s name and we will get you set up.  This is the same process for purchasing department day visitor permits.

We have corrected many issues in the system over the past two weeks and most community members should be able to adjust their account information.  If you find that the above steps do not solve your issue, please email parking@rpi.edu and provide your RIN, Full name, and issue. We will do our best to answer as promptly as we can in the order that emails are received.  We again appreciate your patience as we roll out this new system.

Student Parking

First-year students may not register a vehicle for parking on Rensselaer property.

Purchase a Permit

Permits may be purchased online at www.rpi.aimsparking.com.  You will utilize the Single Sign On option.  Students may register one vehicle.  Faculty and staff may register multiple vehicles, but only one is allowed on campus at a time.  Multiple vehicles registered to the same account and on campus at the same time will be ticketed.  Your permits are now virtual and the system utilizes your license plate.  No hangtag is necessary.
