The Enrichment Term is offered to provide students with unique experience that will complement their RPI curriculum.  Students may use this opportunity to accelerate and receive credit toward their degree, or may also be interested in broadening their skill set and taking courses outside their major.

Why is the Enrichment Term being offered?

The Enrichment Term is being offered to provide students with unique experience that will complement their RPI curriculum.  Students may use this opportunity to accelerate and receive credit toward their degree.  Students may also be interested in broadening their skill set and taking courses outside their major.

Will courses be offered for credit?

Yes.  However, some courses will be offered for no (0) credits.

Can I use the course to fulfill my degree requirement?

Yes, if it meets the degree requirements criteria.

How long will the enrichment term last?

The length of the enrichment term is from December 23 to January 7 for credit-bearing courses.  Note that course length may vary by instructor for non-credit courses.

How long will a course last?

In general, ten days of instruction will be provided for a minimum of 1.5 hours per day for credit-bearing courses.

What will be the format of the courses be offered in the Enrichment Term?

While most courses will be offered online, some will be offered in-person in New York City and off-campus in Troy. 

Will I need to be in Troy to take classes?

No.  Courses will be offered online or in-person in New York City.

When can I register for courses during the Enrichment Term?

Enrichment Term registration will begin November 23, 2022.

What is the latest date that I can add an Enrichment Term class?

The last date to add courses is December 21, 2022.

What is the first day of classes for the Enrichment Term?

The first day of classes will be December 23, 2022.

What is the last day of classes for the Enrichment Term?

Enrichment Term classes will end on January 7, 2023.

When will grades be due?

Grades will be due on January 8, 2023.

Housing

Will there be housing available in Troy to take classes?

No housing will be available on campus. Students who live in the residence halls will move out at the end of the fall semester when the residence halls close. The campus will be closed during the Christmas holiday. 

Will RPI offer housing for courses that take place in New York City?

No.  Students will need to make arrangements for the week or two that they are taking courses.

Independent Project Course

What is the Independent Projects Course?

The Independent Project, or IP, is a four-week period in December and January during which faculty and students are freed from the rigors of regularly scheduled classes for flexible teaching and learning and for independent study and research. IP is part of the academic program of the Institute—the enrichment term in RPI academic calendar. Students are encouraged to explore the educational resources of the Institute by taking specially-designed subjects, arranging individual projects with faculty members, or organizing and participating in IP activities. They may also pursue interests independently off campus in coordination with their department.

How many credits may I sign up for an Independent Project?

Credits are determined by the departments, which may vary from one to two credits

When can I start my Independent Project Course?

The Independent Projects Course period begins after the last day of Fall classes and ends before the first day of Spring classes.

When does registration begin for Independent Study?

Students may sign up for the Independent projects course from October 31 until December 15. 

Can I do my independent project on campus?

You can start your project on campus from December 11 to December 22.  However, when the campus closes for Holiday break, you will not have access to the Troy campus.

Financial Aid

Can a student take a loan to pay for the Enrichment Term?

Yes, loans may be used to pay for credit-bearing courses.

Can I receive financial aid for zero-credit courses?
Unfortunately, no federal, state or RPI grant aid would be available for zero-credit Enrichment Term courses.

Can I receive financial aid for one- or two- credit-bearing courses?

While no federal, state, or RPI grant aid would be available for no-credit Enrichment Term courses, additional loan funds may be availble for courses having more credits.

How much will the Enrichment Term cost?

You will be billed $2,440 per credit hour for enrollment in courses offered during the Enrichment Term.  Course offerings vary from one to two credit hours.  There is no cost associated with the zero-credit hour course “Law School Admission & Careers.” 

 

Tuition bills for students enrolling in the Enrichment Term will be available beginning on December 1, 2022.  Students who register for Enrichment Term coursework after bills have been generated on December 1, 2022 will have a bill generated on December 21, 2022. The payment deadline for the Enrichment Term is January 6th, 2023 - regardless of the billed date.  Be sure to access your eBill to ensure it is paid by the payment deadline.
